304L Stainless Steel

304L Stainless Steel

304L SS is a low-carbon stainless steel known for its resistance in corrosive environments. It has good machinability and weldability.

This material is common in industries that require equipment for processing and handling food, beverages, dairy, and pharmaceutical products.

304L SS is often used for welded products which could be exposed to corrosive or contaminated conditions.

Other common applications of 304L SS include piping, tanks, equipment exposed to water, heat exchangers, heavy gauge components, saucepans, springs, screws, nuts, bolts, sinks, tubing, and cutlery.

Additional information: Annealing is recommended. Because this material work hardens rapidly, it is recommended that machining is done at slower speeds with sharp tools. 304L is weldable with fusion and resistance welding. 304L cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

*Primary never recommends using parts “as built” because of the low elongation. We always recommend annealing. Properties may vary based on temper. Estimated “as built” properties are derived from Oregon State study on selective laser melting 304L.
